A whiteboard for the whole class. Half price.
Tabula is an infinite whiteboard: sticky notes, drawings, shapes, timers and dot votes for group work. One workspace holds your class; every lesson can have its own board, and nothing is counted.
How a class uses it
- You sign up and own the workspace. Co-teachers join as members.
- Students join as guests: you send them a link, they sign in with their email, and they are in. No app, no password, nothing to install. It runs in the browser on laptops and Chromebooks.
- Lessons are boards. Start one from a template or blank, run a timer, let groups write privately and then reveal, vote with dots, and keep the board for next week.
- Guests are free. The price is for the workspace, not per student.
What it costs
- Schools and non-profits: €14.50 a month, or €145 a year, excl. VAT (half the list price). Start the 7-day trial, write to us with your school’s name, and we apply the discount before your first payment. VAT is added at checkout based on your country, for example €36.25 incl. Swedish VAT at the list price.
- Or run it yourself: Tabula is free and open source (AGPL-3.0). Your IT department can host it on the school’s own server with Docker; the README on GitHub has the steps. Then it costs nothing and nothing leaves the school.
Where the data is
- Choose the EU region at signup and your workspace runs in Amsterdam; billing and email run in the EU too.
- Students’ data (name, email, what they put on boards) belongs to the school; we process it on the school’s instructions. The privacy policy says what we keep and for how long. A data processing agreement is available on request.
- Nothing from inside a board is used for analytics or shown to anyone you have not invited.
For your IT department
- Web app, no install. Works in current Chrome and Edge, including on Chromebooks. Firefox and Safari are supported by the code and being tested. Needs a current browser with JavaScript, cookies, IndexedDB and WebSocket on.
- Sign-in by emailed link; no passwords to manage. Admins see who is in the workspace and can remove anyone.
- Self-host option: open source under AGPL-3.0, one container, your own domain. Guide on GitHub.
- Tested with 30 people on one board.
Questions we get
- Do students need an email address?
- Yes, today: the sign-in link goes to it. Joining with a code, no email, is on our list.
- Can parents or other teachers look?
- Invite them as guests; guests can be set to view only.
- What happens at the end of the year?
- Export your boards (PNG, SVG, Markdown and more) or keep the workspace; cancel any time under Admin, Manage billing.
- Is it really unlimited?
- People, boards and guests, yes. The workspace runs on one machine; if a very large school needs a bigger one, we size it with you.
Half price applies to schools, universities, teachers buying for their own class, and registered non-profits. We check lightly (a school email or a public registry is enough) and review it once a year.
